Topcamp Ekeberg Svenskesletta
From battlefield to park
Right near the campsite you’ll find Svenskesletta, a green field with a dramatic past.
Here, during the Northern Seven Years’ War in 1567, Swedish forces gathered to lay siege to Akershus Fortress. They were pushed back after a counterattack led by the castle’s lord, Christiern Munck, who even had to burn down Oslo to prevent the Swedes from taking the city.
At the end of the 19th century, Svenskesletta was a small tenant farm under the Jomfrubråten estate, with a modest dwelling known as “Svenskestua.”
